This bar of soap is named after the essay "There are Two Deserts" in the 1937 opening issue of Desert Magazine by Randall Henderson, the editor. The gist of the essay is that there are two deserts: the one the passerby sees from the car and misunderstands and criticizes for its extremes, its harshness, and its barrenness. Then there's the other desert, the one beloved by its dwellers —the one that teems with diverse plants and animals, expansive landscapes, and unrivaled sunsets.
"To those who come with friendliness, it gives friendship. To those who come with courage, it gives a renewed sense of character. Those seeking relaxation find release from the world of man-made troubles."
This is intended as a tribute to Wonder Valley's longtime home and their high desert community of Joshua Tree, California.
